GOLDIE PALOOZA 2018
On October 14th, families with their beloved goldens and pets joined us at Central Park Huntington Beach, California, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the beloved breed and the third anniversary of our Golden Community SoCal Golden Retriever Buddies.
For several hours, they enjoyed our Golden Village, checked out the products offered by our sponsors and vendors, posed for several photo ops, and watched dogs participate in a barn hunt with rats. Many goldens participated in our Halloween costume contest, sponsored by our Gold Sponsor, Just Food for Dogs. Over seventy raffle baskets were graciously donated with products from companies worldwide. Families became celebrities as they walked our Red Carpet, while others helped make blankets and toys for a rescue in our community center.
Over 681 goldens of all ages and shades helped us break the unofficial “world record” of golden retrievers in one location simultaneously. This title was previously held by Golden Retriever Club of Scotland.
The event was covered by several media outlets including local television channel KTLA, People Magazine, The Los Angeles Times, The London Times, and the Orange County Register. Our guests shared their Goldie Palooza experiences with Instagram and Facebook postings throughout the day.
We would like to thank you, wonderful families, for choosing to enjoy the day with us. Many of you drove many miles to join the festivities. We will never forget the hundred of smiles and wagging tails during our official group picture.
Most importantly, we would like to thank you for your generosity and support online and day of the event. Because of your kindness, the donations more than doubled compared to our first event. We cannot wait to send these donations to SCGRR, GRCGLA rescue, and Golden Retriever Rescue of Puerto Rico. However, with the recent tragic events in Northern California and Ventura County, we have decided (with the consent of the three rescues listed) to send two additional checks to help with the rescue and care of those animals affected by the recent wildfires.
Encouraged by the many positive comments on social media, we plan to continue this “golden” endeavor and excitedly look forward to our third event.
Our Special Guests:
Golden Retriever Lifetime Study
The Golden Retriever Lifetime Study is the largest, most comprehensive prospective canine health study in the United States. The study’s purpose is to identify the nutritional, environmental, lifestyle and genetic risk factors for cancer and other diseases in dogs. Each year, with the help of veterinarians and dog owners, the Foundation collects health, environmental and behavioral data on 3,000+ enrolled golden retrievers.
The Golden Retriever Lifetime Study will help identify nutritional, genetic and environmental risk factors for cancer and other important diseases in dogs. Results will provide comprehensive data on diseases and other health challenges, including cancer. Findings will be used as a launching point for multiple health studies in dogs.
